Each school sends a secondary application to qualified candidates. Most schools request a fee along with the application. You will need passport size photos for most of the applications.
Typical Questions on Secondary Applications
- Please indicate what you are doing during this past academic year.
- If in school, list courses. If working, let us know something about the nature of the job.
- Please share with us something about yourself that is not addressed elsewhere in your application and which would be helpful to the Admissions Committee as we review your file.
- What obstacles have you overcome before applying to medical school
- Who will be your emotional support while you are in medical school?
- Describe your strengths and weaknesses?
- Why do you want to become a physician?
- Is anyone in your immediate family a graduate of our school?
- Who is the major influence in your decision to apply to medical school?
- Why do you want to come to our school?
- Do you have any plans of being a physician in an disadvantaged or rural area
- Please describe the type of community you have lived in?
- Please describe the type of medical practice you would like to have after graduating from medical school?
- Describe any volunteer experiences that you have in an African-American, American Indians, Mexican-American or Puerto Rican community?
Even after secondaries are sent, it is good to update your file with new transcripts or activities because it will distinguish your application. Don't be bothersome when calling schools because it could reflect poorly on you. Be polite and approach the school as if everyone you encounter has an opinion on your acceptance.
