Succesful entrance to an OMFS program requires:

1) Do well on the DAT to get into dental school.
2) Achieve a  high dental school ranking and do well academically.
3) While in dental school prepare for externships at other OMS programs.
4) Complete OMFS research for publication or presentation purposes.
5) Participate in extracurricular activities.
6) Outstanding recommendations from the dean of your dentals school, professors and OMFS chair.

Questions to ask Oral Surgery Programs:
1) Is the program certificate granting or M.D. granting?
2) How many years is the program?
3) Will I receive the education needed to practice in a hospital setting after completion or will the program be more conducive to a private practice opportunity?
4) In OMS/MD programs- Is there time available to study for the USMLE Part 1 (students require at least a 250 score)
