It is beneficial to apply for scholarships every year. We have found those students who apply for small scholarship awards are more successful than those who apply for highly competitive larger scholarships awards. However, with the larger scholarship awards comes national recognition which is helpful when applying for your next phase of education. Therefore, maintain a broad scholarship search and consider the relevant scholarships available to you. For instance, if you are an African-American female high school student residing in Delaware, you should apply for Delaware specific scholarships, women scholarships, African-American scholarships, merit based scholarships, financial need scholarships and college scholarships. Also, even if you have applied for a particular scholarship previously it doesn't exclude you from applying again the following year. Contact counselors and pre-med advisers to inquire about scholarships available within your school.
